Gayla Drake

Gayla Drake is a life-long musician and songwriter, who has lived and worked in Iowa all her life. She became obsessed with the guitar at the age of 3 and begged, cajoled and nagged her parents until they got her one when she turned 4. She has numerous recordings of her music, most recently Aunt G & the Stone City Nephews, on vinyl, and you can hear new music online on her YouTube channel.

Seeking more heart-centered musical expression, Gayla studied and became certified as a Sound Healing Practitioner in 2018, and also discovered and fell head-over-heels in love with the Family Folk Machine, which she joined with her partner Michael in 2018. She leads songwriting classes and a monthly songwriters’ group called The Family Folk Machine Shop (FFMShop) and coordinates monthly musical enrichment opportunities for members through the Family Folk Machine Shed (FFMShed), as well as helping to coordinate and do arrangements for the Family Folk Machine band, in which she plays guitar and fiddle.
